Waywayback Wednesday

I gassed up the Waywayback Machine and took a trip back to 1985...

Remember this Jayum?! Lisa Lisa and that damn Cult Jayum! Yeaboyee!

I wonder if I Take You Home - Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam

the year 1985 when...

The City of Philadelphia and city police dropped a bomb on a neighborhood and let it burn. Five children and six adults, members of a small radical collective called MOVE, died; 61 homes in the middle-class neighborhood were destroyed. As the nation watched, Philadelphia became the city that bombed its own people.

Whitney Houston hadn't yet discovered wack crack. This year she was the Female Vocalist of the Year for "Saving All My Love for You"

The Color Purple earned $98,467,863 and was one of the top grossing films of that year along with Rambo Part II, Back to the Future and Cocoon.

We saved the world when Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones called all their friends in to get.on.their.record, "We are the World" which became "something like a phenomenon" across the globe.

Finally Gorbachev became the Soviet leader and

America "got debt"...for the first time since 1914, the United States owed more money to foreigners than it was owed. Thanks Reagan!

Life was grand, huh?

What were you doing in 1985?
